Two triangular frames rise from the corners of this floor bed, meeting at a beam that runs the length of the canopy above the mattress. Nacaba calls this design the Nook, and the peaked shape is the first thing that stands out: a house outline traced in solid pine, open at both gable ends, with nothing overhead but timber and air. Round metal fixings mark each joint where the angled posts meet the frame.

Beneath the frame, a low slatted rail runs along three sides of the bed base, evenly spaced verticals set into the head, foot and one long side. The fourth side stays open at a lower height, level enough for a child to step across without climbing over a rail. The posts that carry the canopy continue straight down into the same frame that holds the slats, so the structure reads as one build, not a roof fixed onto a separate bed.

Set on a bedroom floor, the shape holds its own without needing a wall behind it. The peaked outline reads clearly from across the room, and the open grain of the pine catches light differently along the angled posts than along the flat slats of the rail. A fitted sheet in grey and a single patterned cushion are enough to furnish it.

The Nook is built from solid pine, left either in its raw state or painted white. Unpainted, the grain stays visible along every post and slat, with the pale, warm tone and small knots typical of pine that hasn't been sanded back or sealed.

Painted white, the same frame reads as a fixed part of the room rather than a stand-alone bed. The grain is still there under the paint if you look closely, but the effect is flatter and cooler, closer to the skirting already in a room than to a separate piece of furniture.

A mattress is not included with the frame, so it is worth checking the exact measurements before choosing one from the mattress collection, and the grey fitted sheet and cushion shown here sit within the wider range of bedding for children's rooms.

A low guard rail built for getting in and out alone

The open side of the rail sits low enough that getting in and out is something a child can manage without a boost or a lift. There is no ladder, no raised base and no gap between the mattress and the floor to catch a foot. The peaked frame above adds height to the room, not to the bed itself.

In a small bedroom, the frame's footprint runs to 145.5 by 75.5cm, with the canopy reaching 149cm at its tallest point and the guard rail sitting at 64cm along the enclosed sides. It suits a single mattress cut to 70 by 140cm, and fits a room built around a low bed more easily than one arranged for a full-height headboard.
